What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

worst week ever

mood: sad
So, I am now waiting for the third shoe to drop since they say bad things come in threes. First, Marty went into the hospital Monday with a staph infections, has had 2 surgeries now and will be in until after Labor Day with weeks of healing and physical therapy to go after. But he is doing much better. The wound looks much better after they cut out the tissue (some muscle) that has died. Then, my grandpa (dad's dad) died yesterday. He was 88 and it has been coming for awhile but that really does not help. So my emotions are so frazzled right now. Please keep my family in your prayers and hope that a third thing does not happen.

Your prayers please...
03:01am 22/08/2006

mood: scared
I just got home 20 minutes ago. I was at the hospital all night. It began with a possible bite on Marty's leg combined with a fever and ended with his surgery and threat of a staph infection. Luckily he made it through the surgery well (his first) and it does not look like he will lose his leg unless there is a serious setback. He will be in the hospital for a few days and faces at least one if not two more surgeries. We would sure love your prayers. For those in town, or anyone wanting to send a card, he is at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis - currently in room 617.

anyone want a dog?
11:37pm 01/08/2006
Is anyone interested in getting a dog? If so, check out www.strayrescue.org. Neve, our foster dog, is on the third page of adoptable dogs. She is a great dog and I want to keep her but Burton is not getting along with her anymore. If you have questions or are interested, please let me know. We are trying to get her adopted ASAP as our situation is very stressful on both dogs and the two of us. I want someone we know to adopt her so we can still visit because I love her.

A new puppy in the window!

mood: happy
We got a new dog today. Her name is Neve and might be a German Shepherd mix but we are not sure. She has the coloring but is much smaller. She is slightly taller than Burton but skinnier. She is about two years they think. We are fostering her right now for Stray Rescue of St. Louis. She is sooooo cute and does well with Burton. They were so cute playing today. She did run out once but Marty got her. She seemed to love exploring. She gets spayed tomorrow so we won't have her until Friday but we already love her. Her favorite chair is the recliner in the corner of the living room. The only sad thing is that she is not fully house trained so she has to sleep in a cage tonight. :(

Marty isn't Cyclops :(
10:22pm 25/05/2006

You scored as Jean Grey. Jean Grey is likely the most powerful X-Man. She loves Cyclops very much but she has a soft spot for Wolverine. She's psychic so she can sense how others are feeling and tries to help them. She also has to control her amazing powers or the malevolent Phoenix entity could take control of her and wreak havok. Powers: Telekinetic, Telepathic

I am finally done!
09:13am 14/05/2006
Well, I made it. Last week was trying as I majorly procrastinated but I finished my two papers and took my final. I turned the last paper of my life in at 4pm Friday. Then, we finished cleaning the house and yesterday was graduation. My friend Becky graduated from Webster U. at 830am so I was there to cheer her on. Then I went home and set up for the barbeque and got ready. I was at UMSL by 1pm to become a graduate. I waited around alot until the ceremony began at 2pm. It was your basic graduation. Except they had the candidates for Master Degrees stand up and then pronounced us graduated and we sat back down. Marty said they thought we were not going to walk. Even I wondered but I knew I had my name card. Well, I eventually walked across that stage to grab a diploma cover and it finally sunk in that I was done. Then we partied! We had a barbeque, which went really well despite not being outside. Quite a few people were there to help me celebrate and it was good to talk to family and friends. Thanks for all of the support from everyone, I appreciate it.

Life sucks. That's all. It just does. As the saying goes, when it rains it pours and right now, it all just sucks. I am just praying that I don't meltdown this semester though some days it seems so. So again I will say: life sucks! Anyone with me?

it begins yet again
07:18pm 19/01/2006

mood: worried
This post definitely should follow after the quiz I just took. So, I am in my final semester of graduate school. Yea! Graduation is May 13. So I should be excited right? Wrong! I had my two electives today (one from 12:30-3 and the other from 4-630). I decided to take an easy class this semester, a 5000 level class. It is my first class, Advanced US History: 1900-1940. It looks really interesting. I have learned about the world wars and the depression separately, but have never taken a broader view of this time period. Well, I get to class and the reading is less than most, only 50-100 pages a week rather than 150-250 a week. But we have quizzes and a final! I have not taken a final since undergrad. That's what I get for taking an undergrad class for graduate credit. Grrr! And there are undergrads who are older than me (and that is not even talking about nontraditional students). We have a 10-15 page biographical analysis/research paper (at least it is small), a 3-5 document analysis paper (due in 2 weeks), and since I am taking it for graduate credit, I have another 10 page historiographical paper due sometime.

My other class is basically a topics and readings in US history. The topic is Material Culture of the American Home. This could be interesting but I am fearful that a lot of the readings are going to be dry. It is mostly readings and discussion with some small writings or postings on a discussion board to help focus our ideas for the class discussions. Plus we have 3 book reviews (2 on secondary sources, 1 on primary) and oral presentations on them. We also have a research paper (15-20 pages).

So here is the breakdown of my semester:

Feb 2 - document analysis paper
Mar 16 - book review and presentation #1
Mar 23 - book review and presentation #2
SPRING BREAK
Apr 6 - book review and presentation #3
AND
first draft of biographical analysis
Apr 20 - final draft due
May 4 - material culture research paper due (assumed)
historiographical paper due (assumed)
May 11 - final for Advanced US History
May 13 - graduate (hopefully)

Now you are thinking, Becky, that really is not too bad. But, I also have my exit project to do by mid-April and have absolutely no idea how it is all going to get done by then. It is tons more work than those two classes combined! Thanks for listening if you were able to make it through this rant. And I know it is not absolutely horrible and it could have been worse, but it is already freaking me out that I won't graduate because I don't have time to finish the project. If you did not understand the earlier quiz before, you do now.

Is this a surprise to anyone? It wasn't to Marty.
07:11pm 19/01/2006

You scored as Stress. Your depression is caused by stress. You are over-burdened with work, moeny and everyone else's problem, and this leaves you with no time to look after yourself. You drink, smoke, maybe even do drugs or self-harm for a way of stress relief, but the pent up anger doesn't leave, and this turns into depression. Stress consumes you.

I hate parties...
10:48pm 19/12/2005

mood: exhausted
music: holiday music
I am so tired. All we have been doing is cleaning for DAYS!!!!!!!!!!! I just want it to be over. I cannot wait until tomorrow night is over and we can relax somewhat. REmind me that I hate giving parties. Especially during the Christmas season and with people who aren't close friends and won't hate me or look down at me if the house isn't as nice as it could be. I love you guys for coming over and not minding the little things (like dirty blinds) that I haven't gotten to with moving in, working, going to school, and getting used to married life. But, tomorrow is the engagement party for Nick and Susan and we have people coming that I don't know so the house must be as good as if can be without a miracle. OK. Going back to finish the basement. Then I need to cook and do dishes. Will it ever end?!?!?

I really don't see it but I did tie for Spider-Man!

You scored as Maximus. After his family was murdered by the evil emperor Commodus, the great Roman general Maximus went into hiding to avoid Commodus's assassins. He became a gladiator, hoping to dominate the colosseum in order to one day get the chance of killing Commodus. Maximus is valiant, courageous, and dedicated. He wants nothing more than the chance to avenge his family, but his temper often gets the better of him.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In October I got in line at the supermarket at the same time as someone else and I didn't yield (-8 points). Last Friday I set [info]webslinger222's puppy on fire (-66 points). In September I pulled [info]nicewordusage's hair (-5 points). Last Thursday I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points). In June I committed genocide... Sorry about that, [info]rockin_chica (-5000 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-4753 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
rodeogirl

Random things about me - FINALLY!
08:59pm 13/11/2005
So, my friend Nicole tagged me to write 20 random things about myself that most people don't know and probably would never want to know. Well, here goes.

1. Squirrels are mad at me.

2. In bed at night, I find it easier to move my 275 lb husband than it is to move my 40 lb. dog.

3. I have 2,761 wedding photos!

4. I keep forgetting we have a chinchilla living in the house and sometimes when I am home alone, the noises he makes scare me.

5. I am afraid of the dark.

6. I think the fear comes from my sister locking her door when she babysat me when I was a little kid and I was afraid things in the dark would get me so I would fall asleep curled up next to her door.

7. I took the ACT three times and only got a 29.

8. I resent my husband for taking it once and getting a 30. (Although, I will be graduating with my master's degree at 22 6 months from today, before he gets his associate's degree.)

9. I think Sean Connery is sexy.

10. I want to get my doctorate just for the hell of it.

11. And to prove to my brother-in-law that I am smart enough to be a college professor. (And no, I do not think I will ever let that go.)

12. My favorite chocolate is Ferrero Rocher. My husband calls it ferret roach chocolate.

13. I love being the center of attention.

14. I automatically fall asleep at 10 pm. (or so my friends say!)

15. I could wear a different pair of shoes every day for over a month. But I can never find a pair to match a new outfit so I go buy a few more options.

16. I married a football player.

17. I hate football.

18. Did I mention I abhor the game of football?

19. My children will attend Lutheran South despite what my husband thinks.

20. I am so boring that I had to ask my husband to help me with this.

I am required to tag four other people so I choose rockin_chica, details15, arconis, and imhavingjayzstw. Have fun guys.

Once again, its been a long time -- something like 9 months since I last wrote in here. My second year of grad school begins this week and I am interning this year at Concordia Historical Institute (Dept. of Archives and History for The LCMS. And I am married. I have been for 3 weeks. Wedding pictures are online so if you are interested, go to www.memoriesareforever.com, click on the Pictage link, and search for Becky & Marty. We are the ones at St. John's Lutheran (they spelled it wrong). Beware though. There are 2,700 pictures!

mood: excited
I know it has been really long since I have written in here. I never have been a frequent writer but this has been really long. Grad school has been going well, really busy and now I have a wedding to plan on top of it. Yes, I said wedding. I am engaged!!! Marty and I decided to see if we could afford to get married this summer and we can, barely. So we are getting married this July. With the help of my mom, we are getting things planned quickly since it is only 8 months. I just wanted to update everyone and have a happy Thanksgiving!

end of the year
03:16pm 15/04/2004
I know I rarely ever post anything but that is because I think my life is boring. However, I am really excited right now but also really sad. I have been accepted into graduate school at UMSL (I will be close to Marty) for museum studies. This program only accepts 12 a year so i am very happy I got in. I also have a graduate assistantship for next year at the Washington (MO) Historical Society. It is about 1 hour outside St. Louis. That means I will get museum experience (work 20 hours a week) while having my tuition paid for and receiving a generous stipend each month from UMSL. I am super excited about this and about going home but I am also getting nostalgic. I am going to miss my friends, my job (and boss) and many other Concordia things. I will miss dorm life. I also am really sad because I am only 20 years old and I fear my big 21st birthday will suck next year because all of my friends will be elsewhere (except Marty, Laura, Becky, and maybe some of Marty's friends). And I really do not know how close I will be by Sept 16 for the people in my graduate cohort. I mean, my classes will be with 20, 30, and 40 year olds! I will be in class with people already holding MAs and PhDs. I am just really afraid of fitting in I guess and having friends bc I will be the youngest (probably ever) in the program. Sorry about this boring posting but I am just worried a bit and fearful yet excited about the next step in my life. That's it. See ya in another few months when I next post.

Do you ever wish life would just speed up and get to where you wish to be? And if it did, would you still want to be at that place or just further along in your life? I know I have sped up my life plenty with graduating with my bachelors at 20 in only 3 years. However, I wish I could be past my master's and getting married and planning a family. I really want a baby (but in the marriage context). My friends, Sarah and Mike, had a baby and her name is Cailey Morgan. She is just about the most adorable baby there is. On Thursday, she was baptized into God's Kingdom and she looked like an angel in her christening gown. At the party on Saturday, I got to hold her and she cried when I gave her to someone else. She is so soft and tiny and so precious. I just want to mother her and love her. She is so cute. Sometimes I wish. But I know I can wait. It just frustrates me!
